Evolving from a multifaceted lineage of Jamaican dancehall, jungle, drum & bass and deep dubstep, Cid Poitier’s signature sound has manifested itself as what can best be described as deep, minimal and experimental sound system music. Driven by intricate percussion and low-end weight, Cid’s music plays off its rich, multi-genre roots while simultaneously exploring the blurred boundaries of experimental, tribal dub and half step, garnering support from a diverse spectrum of underground bass music DJs and producers along the way.
Cid Poitier’s newest release, entitled Zeitgeist / Grim Creeper (SUBCLEF001), comes forth through his recently established imprint, Sub:Clef Records. While a fairly new addition to the bass music circuit, Sub:Clef’s mission is already well established and unwaveringly clear: to bring forth and challenge concepts of UK sound system music using detail, intricacy and innovation while always evoking groove, bass and soul. Zeitgeist / Grim Creeper (SUBCLEF001) accomplishes just that; as it boasts hypnotic, stripped-back atmospheres and forward-facing might while experimenting with slower tempos and unique genre cross-sections.
