The Future is Now: Ivy Lab
The Future is Now: Ivy Lab

The London-based trio known as Ivy Lab return to Critical Music with their first full solo EP since they released the already classic 20 Questions EP in 2015. Steamrolling their way across the globe with their genre-defying sound, the crew drops in for a massive five-tracker forthcoming on Critical that plunges straight to the heart of the half-time movement that has been catching fire on the dancefloor.

Deep, dark and deadly may be the only way to describe the first two cuts that have snuck through, as the title cut off the EP comes swooping in like a jaw-snapping beast before the hair-raising vocal at the core brings on the goosebumps and slow-motion belly churn.

The second cut to make its way to the airwaves is the dirty low-slung groove called “Magikess.” Haunted atmospheres and a twisted top end keep things moving as the worm-like banshee on the bottom end of the sonic spectrum keeps the walls trembling. With a sweet little switch and a nod to the OG breakbeat warriors, we can’t wait to hear this one on the big rig tonight so we can get our skank on.

With the full EP dropping on March 17, keep your eyes on the Critical shop as pre-orders are set to begin on March 13. As an added bonus for all the Bassrush heads gathering tonight in the city of Los Angeles for the Funktion takeover of the Belasco Theater with Shades (Alix Perez & EPROM), Ivy Lab, Tsuruda, and Proko (get your tickets here!), here’s a special hour-long mix from Ivy Lab and Tsuruda that’s sure to leave your head spinning and body aching for release on the dancefloor.
