Long considered a purveyor of the leftfield-leaning side of the drum and bass dancefloor, the ever-essential Critical Music never lets the heads forget that they are capable of dropping the hammer just as likely as they are to have you fighting for air in outer space.

The latest from the New Zealand duo known as The Upbeats goes all in on the dancefloor dropkick as their Gamma Ray EP reveals Snake and Wolf at their best. From the electrifying collab with Rockwell on the title cut to solo bits like “Necking” and “Trauma,” it’s obvious why the duo continues to be a Bassrush festival fave.

While the whole EP is off the chain, we were amped to be able to lock in an exclusive premiere of “Trauma” from the EP as it’s the perfect introduction to the cinematic mix of sci-fi darkness and straight-up dancefloor mayhem the crew is capable of. From the haunting intro on through to the adrenaline rush of the drop and the hard-hitting groove that follows, this is a proper heater sure to be shredding speakers all summer long.

Out August 3 so lock in your pre-order here.
