Donny, Katharsys and Forbidden Society join forces under their 3RDKND moniker and hit us with a heavyweight head-cracker sure to have the heads climbing up the walls. With each producer already known for pushing the dark edges of the drum and bass genre, anytime they come together as 3RDKND the results are jaw-dropping.
Following up on last year’s Cognitive EP, the trio have spent months locked in the lab, determined to outdo themselves both in terms of production and straight-up energy. The resulting Remnant EP is a full-throttled glimpse into the sci-fi and horror-inspired soundscape that the collective crafts so well.
As Forbidden Society tells us: “We wanted to go as hard and experimental as possible with no remorse but at the same time we focused on quality, drum editing, and mixdowns to have it all make sense. We spent almost eight months on this EP after our Cognitive EP.”
While bits like “Demon,” “Remnant of a Dream,” and “The Fix” have already earned the support of heads like Noisia and Black Sun Empire, we’re stoked to be able to introduce one of our favorite cuts off the EP: “Kill.
Opening with a sinister vocal and cinematic atmosphere, the resulting tension hints at the darkness ahead before the trio dumps us into the depths of the tune proper. Not satisfied with just dumping us straight into the heart of the beast, the crew take their time stretching the anxiety to the breaking point and just when you’re on the verge of having a straight-up panic attack on the dancefloor, 3RDKND pull the plug and unleash the stomping snare-driven beast.
If you like your drum and bass on the hard, dark and experimental side of things then the full EP from Forbidden Society Recordings has just what you need. Drops tomorrow, September 12, on Beatport / Spotify followed by a worldwide release on September 26 so lock yours in here.
