The Japanese bassbin beast known as Ajapai hits it hard on his latest outing for Rottun Recordings. Having been a long-time favorite of those who like their beats militant and their atmospheres straight up aggressive, Ajapai always seems to deliver the synapse-frying dancefloor pressure sure to have the heads heaving at the speakers.
On the aptly titled Spark EP, Ajapai does not disappoint, as the title track alone is sure to be cracking skulls all summer long. When this one drops watch out as Ajapai unleashes his signature “hybrid step” that merges trap and dubstep vibes into an off-kilter groove that keeps the pressure bubbling from top to bottom.
“New World” is another bone-crusher of the highest order that takes the same format and brings on the bass bombs atop a crispy high-end that shakes and shivers in all the right places. Closing it out with “Out of Control,” Ajapai amps up the energy by dipping into drum & bass territory, bringing on the machine gun beats and a gnarly hook that’s somewhere between dubstep and neuro territory.
