Rubik Records returns with an epic roller in the form of “Ben Carlos” from the ever-impressive Calculon and Dave Owen. Originally slated for LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking imprint, this one rolls out the late-night vibes with tender jazz piano accents and a golden bassline that makes you want to just curl up in the beats. Of course whenever Christina Tamayo gets involved, her sweet and sexy vocals take center stage and elevate the tune to legendary status.

“Dave Owen and I were collaborating through AIM a few years back,” says Calculon when asked how the tune came together. “I came across the main piano sample when I was looking through CDs at the local library and I knew it was going to lead to something special.”

Once the tune was winnowed down from an early 10-minute version, Christina got involved and the tune was soon in LTJ Bukem’s hands and slotted for a future release on Good Looking.

“We were very excited, as anyone who knows the role of Good Looking in drum & bass/jungle knows how hard it is to meet their standards. Unfortunately, after a few years, the tune hadn’t been released so we got permission to have the tune back and release it ourselves with an absolutely fresh remix from Lenzman.”

As if that wasn’t enough to get you in the mood, the duo linked up with director JJ Soderling and put together a heavy video to accompany the beats. Check it below and be sure to pick up your copy of the single, due out Friday, October 23.
