Viper Recordings drops one last tease on us from what they are promising is going to be “one of the biggest compilations of the last decade.” Of course we’re talking about the Acts of Mad Men Vol 2 compilation LP set to drop early in the new year that was not only curated by label boss Futurebound himself but features seventeen brand new exclusives from some of the scenes finest heavyhitters. Similar to the first Acts of Mad Men compilation released ten years ago (!), volume 2 promises to be jam-packed with anthem after anthem from across the spectrum of drum and bass as a whole.
With that in mind, who better than Cyantific and Smooth to hammer it all home for the final lead-in to the full release? While both are capable of hitting where it hurts each and time they unleash a tune on the dancefloor, Cyantific’s “Take Me In” is the real heartbreaker of the bunch. From the upbeat 80s-influenced vibe sure to get those hands in the air all the way through to the darkness lurking around the edges, the hypnotizing vocals at the core make this one an instant classic sure to be on repeat all winter long.
Smooth’s own “What You Want” is the perfect pairing on the release as it features the artist flexing as only he can do. While he originally appeared on the first volume of the series a decade ago, there’s no denying that the intervening years have featured Smooth dialing it in like no other and rightly claiming his spot as a drum and bass legend in the making. Able to dip into liquid dreamers as much as he’s able to smash it out on the tech-driven tip, “What You Want” is a turn towards the murkier realms of jump-up as Smooth goes all in and delivers some jet-propelled filth.
Both of these cuts are available now to stream and download (lock yours in here) but be sure to keep an eye out for the full Acts of Mad Men Vol 2 compilation LP to hit the streets January 31 in the near year! Consider yourself warned!
