The label Smokin’ Riddims is run by long time D&B producer Jaydan and is steadily earning a reputation for putting out consistent tunage. This year alone we’ve seen EP’s from Raz, Shifta and DJ Limited.
Serious Selection Vol 1 is a new various artists’ series conceptualized by Jaydan himself. He explains, “I really wanted to do a multi-artist LP for a while now and [I] have lots of quality music coming to me so the time felt right. It’s [also] a good way to showcase some of the newer artists I’m working.”
The album hosts 12 of the finest producers from the Smokin’ Riddims camp. Jaydan himself kicks things off on a strong note with the dark and deep “How Far,” while Leaf’s “Dis Ting” contrasts the vibe with a funky, old-school, dub-minded track complete with rudeboy vocals and rolling breaks.
The always-solid Harvest makes an appearance with “Mindmaster,” a tasteful slice of drum & bass with lush strings and a monstrous swinging beat. Samy Nicks contributes a hefty banger with “Crime Scene,” a mayhem inducing, dancefloor-driven track that plays off nicely with Shifta’s techy and upfront “Deadfall.”
Core artists Upfront and Aesthetics collab for “Touch,” a subtle jazzy roller, while Upfront’s solo offering, “Grumps,” builds immense vibes and is sure to be an album favorite.
Serious Selection Vol. 1 has ton of variance and also includes tunes from Raz, Kihmera, FinePrint, Aesthetics and DJ Limited. Be sure to bag this on digital April 18!
