Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos aren’t really that big in Hungary, where Mindscape hails from. On the heels of the third installment of his Eatbrain Reanimator series, however, it couldn’t be a better time to break out the creepy D&B mixes. No one does eerie, hard, dark drum & bass like Eatbrain and the theme for this release couldn’t be more appropriate, so Mindscape was good enough to bless us with some Halloween and Day of the Dead vibes, ‘Reanimator’ style.
The Reanimator series was introduced back in December of last year. The idea was to release an album’s worth of work in three EPs to bring more focus to each set of tracks. The theme, unsurprisingly, is a cross between the Frankenstein myth and Eatbrain’s own zombie theme. Mindscape has said it also parallels the creative process musically, as putting together a track from seemingly random, uninspired sounds can feel like a similar task to reanimating dead tissue. Either way it’s spooky and perfect for the season.
For the guest mix, the latest installment of The Reanimator features heavily on the tracklist, but Mindscape also chose a diverse group of tracks to compliment his own work. It’s a study in all the really brutal D&B that have come out so far in 2018, with instant classics like Mefjus’s “Sinkhole” to brand new jams like Misanthrop and Synergy’s “Slap the Ghost.” There’s some wild cards contained within too, like “City Slickers” by Break and DLR and Enei’s brand new “Grave,” which isn’t even out yet. As usual, Mindscape’s put on a great show with this guest mix, putting the tracks together in a way that only he can and churning out some seriously fresh haunting vibes.
