Blackout Music NL continues its quest for neuro-domination as it unleashes the massive, five-track Edge EP, a collaborative effort by Neonlight and Wintermute. Released exclusively on Beatport last week, the head-twisting tech-vibe that the trio has carefully crafted in the lab has already caused a massive stir worldwide.
Edge is a full-on sci-fi thriller from top to bottom, as the boys compose a futuristic soundscape of epic proportions centered on spiraling intros, cinematic breakdowns, lurching beats, and shivering B-lines. The entire EP feels like a dark and brooding exploration of the traditional neuro sound, but one that also seeks to push the boundaries of the genre template. Bits including “Influx,” “Guinea Pig,” and “Posthuman” in particular introduce off-beat grooves and chest-trembling B-lines that are otherworldly in the very best way.
While it’s not a full-on genetic mutation of the form, Edge makes it obvious that the chromosomes of the genre are evolving and that heads like Neonlight, Wintermute, and the entire Blackout Music family are at the forefront of this new frontier. Look out!
