With tunes suited for the grittiest underground clubs and giant festival stages alike, you won’t encounter a more solid dubstep label than Never Say Die, and 2016 has been one of their best yet. If you haven’t noticed, SKisM’s ragtag group of bass rebels are putting out some of the most forward thinking, rage-worthy and ferocious basslines on imprints Never Say Die and NSD: Black Label.
With label boss SKisM at the helm, you can guarantee this playlist will be your go-to when summoning the bass gods and reflecting on a grimey 2016. Get ready to smash that play button and soak in the sounds of Eptic, Space Laces, Megalodon and the entire NSD gang below, along with a few excerpts on his Top Three favorite picks of the year.
Space Laces “Bugbass” (NSD: Black Label)
“If you ask producers in the scene who their favorite producer is, in my experience a lot of them will say Space Laces. Every track he makes is completely unique and sounds nothing like anyone else. ‘Bugbass’ has such a cool vibe—gangsta and alien-esque at the same time—and it was an honor to be able to bring it to the masses via the Black Label XXL comp this year.”
Zomboy “Like A Bitch” (Never Say Die)
“There isn’t much that needs to be said about the track that ended as the set opener for 90% of the bass music DJ scene. Remember where you heard it first.”
Megalodon “Dead Ringer” (NSD: Black Label)
“In my opinion, Megalodon was flying the flag for so many of the vibes, grooves and stylistic elements of riddim before riddim was even a thing. Never one to allow himself to stagnate, he’s brought his sound bang-up to date and is making the best music of his career right now. ‘Dead Ringer’ is my personal favorite from his phenomenal My Selecta EP.”
