[Playlist] State of Mind’s “Winter Storm"
[Playlist] State of Mind’s “Winter Storm"

New Zealand’s masters of dark, visceral drum & bass, the duo known as State of Mind, have been holding it down in the movement for some time with outings on Subtitles Music, BC Presents, CIA and most recently Eatbrain and Blackout. The sky’s the limit this year and we’re lucky enough to have them join us for the first installment of Funktion alongside Calyx & TeeBee on February 1.

Even though we’re weeks away, mark your calendars and prepare to come out of winter hibernation and join Bassrush in Los Angeles at the Belasco to take in some much needed bass frequencies from State of Mind, Calyx & Teebee, Reid Speed and MC Dino. To celebrate their return Stateside, the SOM crew put together this fiery 15-track playlist with some commentary on a few cuts exclusively for #TeamBassrush, so be sure to turn up the bass and grab those Funktion tickets here.

Bad Company “4 Days”
“This is the shit. This era of D&B means so much to us personally and groups like Bad Company were pretty much was the reason Pat and I started making this music.”

State of Mind “Sun King”
“This is a really old one of ours. In fact, it’s close to our first ever release. People seem to just love this track and it might be our most well-known tune. It’s super simple—just that one hook—but it works, you know. I think we made the whole track in about six hours.”

Black Sun Empire & State of Mind “Thug”
“This was the lead single from one of our collab EPs with BSE: The Violent Five. Heavy tune this one—I think it nicely captures both of our sounds.”

Mefjus & Inside Info “Mythos”
“This tune still gets me. The opening is so quiet—then bang! That weird bong sounding noise, what is that? Bad arse is what it is.”
