If you’re down with the funky side of tech-driven drum & bass, the one they call DLR (aka Dirty LeRoi) is a name that needs no introduction. Having earned his stripes on imprints ranging from Metalheadz to Dispatch, Shogun Audio and Symmetry, the legend-in-the-making is about to level up once again with the launch of his own Sofa Sound imprint.
The first release features DLR in top form as well as a wicked collaboration with fellow tech-funk dealers Quadrant (shout out to the Stateside crew!) that sets a high bar for all the releases still to come. From the heavyweight rumble that “Ghostfish” brings to the table on through to the punch-drunk “Throwback” that brings on the dancefloor sizzle, this is one of those buy-on-sight releases sure to go down as a future classic.
As if that wasn’t enough, the tune we’re premiering below gathers all that DLR-driven love into one place under the guise of “Don’t Make Sense.” The quintessential hypnotic groove at the core showcases DLR’s untouchable ability to craft an intricately layered call and response between the elements that hits the sweet spot on the synaptic receptors. From there, the midrange brings on the funk while the bottom end growls in all the right places before the top end and expertly placed stabs round out another jaw-dropper from the newly minted label boss.
Expect more head-twisting illness from DLR and his hand-selected crew in the near future. Out now so lock yours in here.
