Born and raised in Arizona but now hailing from the UK, the hometown hero known as Ownglow is set to drop jaws with his forthcoming Inside the Silence EP on the legendary Hospital Records. Offering up four tracks that showcase the young producer’s ability to flex on a number of different vibes, the transatlantic connection is in full force as Ownglow locks in collabs not only with Mitekiss, Dilemma, Disco’s Over, and Elle Vee, but Courtney Odom who hails from Arizona herself and delivers a knockout blow on our favorite cut off the EP, “Mercy.”
From the liquid lover’s dream known as “Breathe” to the deep and deadly “Take Me” on through to the hip-hop-tinged “Glo Mello Flo,” it’s obvious that Ownglow’s powers as a producer grow with each and every foray into the studio. Still, it’s the jazz-and-soul hustle of “Mercy” that has us marveling at the 20-year-old’s abilities to conjure up a heavy mix of uplifting and melancholic emotions.
Teaming up with the Brighton-based Dilemma on production duties, the dreamy, celestial swirl of the intro serves as a gateway for the soulful vocals of Courtney Odom to bring on the goosebumps before the exquisite drum and bass shivers come climbing out of the depths and reveal the full power on hand. As the tune shifts and kicks into high gear the bubbling bottom end grinds it out with just enough dirt to make even the most battle-hardened soldiers out there move, while the catchy vocal hook and ill vibes throughout give this one enough crossover appeal to ensure it’ll be rinsed poolside all summer long.
