As PhaseOne continues to roll out the bass-heavy heat from his forthcoming Origins EP for Disciple, there’s still a special little treat for those who like their beats in the 174bpm range. We’re talking about this smoking drum & bass remix coming in hot from the untouchable UK duo known as DC Breaks.
Taking the electric vibes of the original “Broken Chains” from the young Aussie producer and doubling down with a seductive intro built on sweeping pads and celestial atmospheres, it’s when the dreamy vocal gives way to the dizzying drop that DC Breaks unleash the beast. As the crunchy kick emerges from the mist with that inimitable drum & bass energy that the Ram Records stalwarts are best known for, prepare for a proper beatdown. The sucker-punch drums and dirty bottom end hammer it all home.
“We don’t usually use bass parts when we’re doing a remix but these worked really well at 174bpm,” DC Breaks says when asked how they approached the remix. “Since they worked so well we took the bass parts and spun them into a skanky D&B groove before chucking in some of our signature bass sounds. The rest fell into place really quickly. Remixing is easy when you have great parts to work with!”
Easy or not, DC Breaks crush it on this one so check the remix below and keep your eyes peeled for the full EP, dropping January 16 via Disciple.
