Run DMT is releasing his first full-length album in over two years on Monday entitled Revolutionaire, and Bassrush can report that it is a literal gallery of styles and sub genres. Everything from liquid drum & bass to Run’s characteristic wobble dubstep is present, with each and every tune revealing the skills that Run DMT is capable of flexing with.

For example, check the technique on “Rhythm Runners,” a classic dancehall-inspired dub tune that we’re premiering below. Recruiting the incomparable Barrington Levy on vocals, the rudeboy lyricism kicks the precision production by Run and dubstep wild card Dirt Monkey into high gear. While it’s a collab that may seem a little surprising, there’s no doubt that working with a legend like Barrington Levy not only inspired the proceedings but elevated the tune itself as the dub vocalist’s smooth and evocative lyrics seem magically to conjure up the horn compliments and island dub melody.

With a classic, dancehall-influenced beat paving the way it isn’t until a surprise comes in the form of a grinding, techy synth that this whirlwind of a track will have listeners wanting to mosh and skank ‘pon the dance all at the same time.

Run DMT’s Revolutionaire drops on Kill Your Ego on August 14 and be sure to look out for Dirt Monkey’s forthcoming album, Wubula, out on August 21 on Subcarbon as well.
