The highly anticipated Fifteen Years of Underground Sonics compilation album is finally upon us and what better way to celebrate the 100th release of the Critical Music imprint than with a 15-track compilation featuring exclusives from all the heavy-hitters who have called the legendary imprint home over the years.
As label boss Kasra tells it, “Over the past 15 years the label I started as a hobby, as a way to involve myself in drum & bass, has taken over my life. I’m so lucky to have worked with such incredible artists, have them realize their creativity, and travelled all over the world spreading the sound I love.
I deliberated for a long time over what type of record we should put together to celebrate reaching both our 15th birthday and 100th release. I like to think of us as a label that looks forward, that focuses on what the future holds and on how to make statements without sacrificing our core ideals, to release exciting music centered around the 170bpm tempo. So with this in mind I wanted the LP to be about where the label is now and where it’s going, a snapshot of the music that represents the Critical sound by core label acts and some choice friends.
This album is an insight into Critical Music in 2017 and a thank you to all who have been involved in any way over the past 15 years.”
Set to be released as a 5×12″ vinyl release in addition to the usual digital madness this Friday, May 26, expect the full range of the genre to represent from the left-field to the half-stepping to the full-on neurofunk floor-thrillers. Names like Enei, Break, Ivy Lab, Mefjus, Foreign Concept, Hyroglifics, The Upbeats, and so many more deliver their very best but perhaps none of the tunes quite capture the full dynamic range of what Critical is all about then this dirty little bit from Sam Binga we’re premiering below. Featuring the untouchable Eva Lazarus on vocals, the funky bass and blues spitting out your speakers is nothing short of blissed-out, tricked-out music for your mind, body, and soul.
