[Q&A] BadKlaat Unleashes the Beast on NSD: Black Label

The Gloucester, UK native and mastermind behind the latest volume of the highly anticipated label megamix for the NSD: Black Label crew, the bad man BadKlaat steps into the spotlight with his jaw-dropping take on the fourth volume of the always epic NSD: Black Label XL mix series. Bringing his unique, high quality, and heavy flavor to the mix, he continues to prove he is a force to be reckoned with. With drizzles of massive tracks by his label mates, there is no doubt that the mix will rattle even seasoned bassheads to their core and take them to a state of bass-induced nirvana.

On top of having the honor of putting together the staple mega mix that is NSD: Black Label XL 4, BadKlaat also has two songs released on the accompanying compilation project, joining the rest of the Black Label crew turning up the heat in top form. Between all original BadKlaat songs like “Knuckle Sandwich” causing havoc on the dancefloor to the overwhelming support he’s already received on the mix, we thought it was the right time to catch up with BadKlaat for a glimpse at what life has been like since joining the NSD roster, as well as a quick look to where he’s headed in the future.

Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the compilation here and blast this heavy mix as loud as you can to get the full effect of BadKlaat in the mix.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! How has life been lately?
My pleasure! Life’s been good—nice and chilled the last few months but with all the stuff coming up, it doesn’t look like that is about to last very long!

Let’s get to the nitty gritty, the NSD Black Label Vol 4 mix is wild!
Thanks! Yeah, I’m really pleased with it as a whole. It’s an honor to have been a part of putting it together. A couple people said the mix was a bit too crazy, though!

What is your process like when it comes to putting together a mix like this?
This was actually the first time I had done a mix to put online, but I just prepared the way I would for a live set and took it from there. It was a lot of fun trying to fit in as much as possible.

Any particular place you pulled inspiration from for this mix?
I sat in front of a strobe for 48 hours and drank nothing but Red Bull.

What does it feel like to be part of the NSD: Black Label family?
It really is a family! I was quickly made to feel like part of the family and not just an asset. The team has done a lot for me inside and outside of music!

Knuckle Sandwich” is crushing it! Did you have any idea the tune would be so well received by fans?
I had no idea. I had spent quite a while on a few demos I sent to NSD before I made “Knuckle Sandwich” and SKisM didn’t really like them. I think they were a bit soft, to be honest. But then in like a day I made “Knuckle Sandwich” and they loved it.

How do you see NSD Black Label contributing to the success and the progression of bass music?
With the amazing talent they are constantly bringing to light, we are getting to hear fresh music from otherwise not so known producers. So I think the scene will continue to grow and connect with new audiences around the world.

Anything special you’ve got in the works you can share with fans?
I’ve got a few things up my sleeve, but nothing I can announce just yet unfortunately. Watch this space!

Any shout outs you’d like to give before we go?
Shout to Bassrush for having me, the NSD team, every other label and artist making amazing bass music, and every person on this planet doing what they love! Keep crushing it.
