With a seemingly endless amount of fresh material, the London drum & bass outfit known as Samy Nicks & Rekwest continue to inject new energy into the genre with their stylish productions. From releases on the roller-centric Smokin’ Riddims to kick-starting imprints like Tyke’s Holographic Audio, the pair have steadily grown their discography ever since their debut in 2012.
With this much heat to go around, it only makes sense that 2015 would see the start of a new venture: their very own Amusement Audio label. “The purpose for my label is to demonstrate the best in what I enjoy about drum & bass—providing out-of-the-box beats, something imaginative and different from the norm,” says Sam Nicholls, a.k.a. Samy Nicks.
Beginning with their trademark upfront vibes, Amusement Audio’s second release, “Slummin’ It,” encompasses rude, gritty dancefloor sounds with a memorable musical riff. The B-side, “Tell Me Your Name,” flexes a moodier vibe with its room-filling bass frequencies. Both bits are perfect tools for the dancefloor.
