Living up to its name, Minnesota’s Outer Realms imprint taps TVBOO for a wide-ranging ride through the dark side of the dancefloor on his aptly titled Cult Classics EP. Featuring heads like Hyphee, Purge, and Shanghai Doom stepping up on the collab tip, it’s this synapse-frying “IDKWTF” with Beardthug that is all the rage at Bassrush HQ.
“All the tracks on the EP happened very naturally, nothing was forced,” TVBOO tells us when asked about the collaborative element behind the project. “Every artist brought their own styles to the table and I feel like you can really hear a collaboration in every track. Every track is a different tempo with a totally different vibe. Whether you’re into weird, heavy, wonky, or just straight up fun bass music, I feel like this EP has got it. I’m a super big fan of all these artists and really stoked they could be a part of this.”
Beardthug’s contribution to the cause lives up to the hype as he brings a dose of that low-slung sickness to the proceedings. Unfolding with a kind of deceptively playful retro-tinged intro, don’t let the low-key hypnotism fool you, once the doors kick in on this one and TVBOO and Beardthug unleash the beast at the core prepare to get swept away in a wave of grimy bass and exotic atmospheres.
