Gather up your squad and prepare to ride into the sunset as Zeds Dead locks horns with GRiZ to unleash their long-awaited “Ecstasy of Soul” on Deadbeats.
Ever since it debuted last September during Zeds Dead and GRiZ’s inaugural b2b at the GoldRush Festival in Phoenix, the spaghetti-Western inspired cut has been one of the most sought after IDs fans have been requesting all year long.
Building off the DNA of Ennio Morricone’s classic theme song for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, “Ecstasy of Soul” wastes no time in shotgunning listeners into an electrified pit of vipers.
The fifth release from Zeds Dead this year, “Ecstasy of Soul” also marks a departure from the more downtempo, house, and dubstep-adjacent tunes they’ve been offering in the vein of their new sub label, Altered States. For many fans, its a return to the glorious fury of electro-driven dubstep and cinematic anthemic bangers that helped fuel Zeds Dead’s rise to fame in the first place.
As Zeds Dead tells it: “We were doing a big back to back set in Arizona and wanted to create something super epic for the intro. We tossed around a few ideas and finally decided to try something with a version of The Good The Bad and the Ugly theme. Something about the Wild West and the new frontier seemed to be calling our name. Griz is the best and this was a lot of fun to work on, it brought us back to our old remixing days. We’ve been playing it at every show since and it’s gotten the most insane reactions. Stoked to finally put it out!”
With GRiZ wrapping his ninth annual 12 Days of GRiZMAS charity program and event series, the tune comes at a pivotal moment in his own career as he continues to level up with each and every release, hosting his own curated events and locking down headlining appearances at festivals into the new year.
Still, no matter what both crews have in store for us in 2023, it’s best to let the music do the talking and see if it hits you just as hard on a Spotify stream as it does stomping it out alongside a festival-sized crowd at your side.
